Tidal Challenges in refurbishment of Belfast Harbour Oil Berthing Jetty

Larsen Contracts have handled many challenging projects in their history of concrete repair, and a current project at Belfast Port - the refurbishment of an Oil berth Jetty 2 is one of the more complex ones.

Farrens Construction appointed Larsen as the specialist structural concrete repair contractor, on the fast track 12 week programme with a value of over £120,000.

The team of 12 specialists working on the project is faced with no only the challenge of working in tidal conditions but also the factor of a live jetty, where the frequency of oil  tankers  arriving in the harbour  can often mean disruption to works.

Mark Murphy   Project Manager commentated  , “  There are very few experienced specialist contractors  in UK and Ireland able to handle successfully marine concrete repair  works,  as  this type of project can create  both technical  and heath and safety challenges  with often tight deadline pressures.”

Larsen contracts use hydro- demolition technologies, with sprayed and flowable concrete repairs for marine projects

Other recent concrete repair projects  by Larsen include: Aghada Power station Cork, Fareham Shopping Center Southampton, Lakeland Form Enniskillen, M1 Motorway Bridges Belfast,Aspin Walk  Belfast,   , Mill Building Odlums Mill Building Dublin Port, St Brendan’s Community Collage.
